UST CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC: GUITARRA 2010
The University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music presents Guitarra 2010, its first international guitar festival, from August 23 to 27, 2010. This festival coincides with the 400th celebration of the founding of UST. There are six invited artists on the roster who will be performing in concerts as well as conducting master classes:
Angelito Agcaoili (Philippines/USA)
Agustin Castilla-Avila (Spain/Austria)
Manuel Cabrera II (Philippines/Singapore)
Meng Feng Su (Taiwan)
Joseph Mirandilla (Philippines/China)
Ruey Yen (Taiwan)
This will be the first international guitar festival to be hosted by a Philippine school.
There will be four concerts with two featured solo performers for the first three evenings (August 24, 25, and 26). The August 27 concert, meanwhile, will feature the UST guitar faculty, students, and ensembles. The tickets may be used in any of the four concerts.
Assistant Professor Ruben Reyes, who also helms the festival as its director, says, “I hope that through this festival, there will be greater awareness of the guitar as a serious instrument. It’s a great resource for greater artistic achievement, [and] it’s a popular instrument; [there is] virtually one in every household. We also hope to raise the standard of guitar-playing in the country.”
