      PINOYS JOIN THE BLACK PARADE!

It all started after frontman Gerard Way witnessed the September 11 attacks in 2001. In dire need of an outlet to express his thoughts about the tragedy, he then decided to form his own band. He penned the song Skylines and Turnstiles and recorded it with ex-drummer Matt Pelissier in the latter’s attic. Realizing that it was hard to both sing and play an instrument at the same time, he invited guitarist Ray Toro on board. After hearing (and loving) the demo, Gerard’s younger brother Mikey decided to join the group and learned to play the bass. Recognizing their potential, Eyeball Records signed them up. It was there that they met another guitarist, Frank Iero. A few months after MCR was formed, the band recorded its debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. They were then booked to play at Big Daddy’s, where they began to receive mainstream attention.

      THE PARTY IS THE SECRET

      • By : Luis Katigbak

This week, the Revolver production night celebrates its third anniversary, and they’re doing it in a big way—with excellent acts like the Chillitees, The Dawn, Nyko Maca + Playground, Pedicab, Sandwich, Sino Sikat?, Taken By Cars, Ciudad, Corporate Lo-Fi, Itchyworms, Queso, Salindiwa, Urbandub, and more, playing on four different nights and three different venues, spread out through September. Great!, you say. But what’s a production night and what is Revolver?

      REKLAMO PARA SA PAGBABAGO

      • By : Rexy Jolly V. Conopio

Do you think Pinoy bands nowadays are all identical — everyone feeling sorry for their own unrequited love, crying their hearts out for the one that got away, or just utterly jaded and blue? Do you feel that they have exploited the theme of romantic love and have escalated the subject of solitude to a whole, new, sorry level? Are you afraid that the Philippine rock scene now had become too monotonous and hopelessly emo for your taste? Hold that generalization. Making waves and heaping rave remarks for their blatant and no-frills way of tackling life’s everyday issues is Reklamo, a group dedicated to vent out frustrations and disgust towards anything and everything in the form of music. This three-piece band composed of LC de Leon on guitar and vocals, Mig Dayanghirang on bass, and Ciro de Leon on drums, is basically rock with a few twists and turns cornering certain areas like funk, jazz, and country, mixing them altogether, and ultimately creating their own sound.
