HALE-D OVER: BUT NOT OVER

HALE IS OUT AND ABOUT—NO, THEY’RE ABOVE, OVER, AND BEYOND WITH THEIR THIRD ALBUM. HERE, AND NOW, HALE HAS APTLY REVIVIFIED.

Hale is back: recharged, and ready again to face the hordes of fans (remember the days of Broken Sonnet?) and critics alike. They captured listeners’ attention (and for some, hearts) with their distinct melodrama, followed up with a subtle and semi-serious Twilight, and now, post-hiatus, Above, Over, and Beyond.

Working up the third

PULSE.PH: How come it took you almost one and a half years to release your new album?

HALE: We have no idea. No reason, really. We just rested, that’s all.

What was the hardest part in doing the album? Any pressures or struggles?

Independence. No pressures and struggles. We’d like to think of it as challenges.

(The album was done by Hale: in their own time, in their own terms, with their own creative approach.)

What is the general theme/concept of Above, Over, and Beyond? How did you come up with the album title? Who thought of the concept and the album title?

It’s derived from a car. The Toyota Supra. It stuck with us.

How different is the third album from the first two? What can Above, Over, and Beyond offer listeners?

The songs, the year. Our ages, and our state of mind.

Who wrote the songs in the album? Did you collaborate with other artists?

We did (write the songs). Monique (Rae) sang on Sundown.

What/Who were your inspirations and influences while doing the album?

Each other.

Becoming Above, Over, and Beyond

Tell us a little something about the tracks in the album.

Over And Over (And Over Again) - - Sensual bliss

This Is A Happy Song - It's a happy song.

Sundown - It's about slowing yourself down amidst the stress of city life.

Pitong Araw (Why was this chosen to be the carrier single?) - It's about abstinence. It was chosen to be the carrier single because the lable told us so. We don't mind.

Sandali Na Lang - The anxiousness and excitement of somebody coming over and it's taking too long...

The End - The end.

Requiem - A tribute to a fallen one and his family.

Back From The Beginning - It's about assessing the situation and realizing it's back to start.

Tama Na Ba? - The thought of quitting something

Skip The Drama - The antithesis of Broken Sonnet

Hagatna Bay - Long-distance relationship

Tree House - Safety in numbers

Leap of Faith - It's about meeting somebody, and asking yourself when you will see that person again...hopefully, very soon.

What are your favorite tracks in the CD?

Tree House.

Hale and Beyond

How would you describe the Philippine music scene now, compared to when you started back in 2005?

It got more fraudulent. Or maybe, it’s because we’re not naïve anymore. We’ve become aware and much more cognizant.

With multi-platinum records and much commercial success, what other things would you like Hale to accomplish?

Expand our horizons.

How has the band changed over the years? How have these changes affected your music now?

We're more level-headed and rational. Everyone, and everything, changes. It's just a matter of time.
