Santos’s volume—the first of its kind since 1996’s Punks, Poets, Poseurs by Eric Caruncho—collects his best pieces culled from the past half-decade. Among the artists covered in the book are the Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Parokya ni Edgar, Wolfgang, and Sandwich, as well as relative newcomers Pupil, Markus Highway, and Peryodiko. Landmark pieces on legendary figures such as Joey “Pepe” Smith, Joey Ayala, and The Wuds’ Bobby Balingit are also highlighted. The book will also feature a foreword by fellow poet-musician Lourd Ernest de Veyra—also the frontman for the Radioactive Sago Project—who believes that Santos, apart from displaying “a tremendous sense of passion,” also “informs his work with intelligence and with a prose styling that is equally, commandingly musical.”
The launch party will be held on January 28, 2009 at Café saGuijo in MakatiCity, and will feature performances by Pupil, Markus Highway, Rivermaya, Truefaith, Peryodiko, The Wuds, and The Purplechickens. Gate admission will be PhP200 (with a free drink), or PhP500 (with a free drink and a discounted copy of the book). The show will be brought to you by Pulse.ph, in cooperation with Revolver Productions and Poppy & Plume Publishing, as well as the help of media partners RJ Underground Radio 105.9, NU 107, Pulp Magazine, and You Magazine.
The night promises to be one for the books (pun absolutely intended).
